In Memoriam: Bill Gladstone, President of Judge, Inc.

March 12, 2012 (PHILADELPHIA) – The Judge Group today announced with deep sorrow that William Gladstone, president of Judge, Inc., passed away suddenly on Friday, March 9. He was 64 years old.

In Memoriam: Bill Gladstone, President of Judge, Inc.Together with CEO and founder Martin E. Judge, Jr. and Michael Dunn, Bill helped create Judge, Inc., a subsidiary of The Judge Group specializing in permanent placement services. Bill joined Judge in 1976 as a technical recruiter. He was promoted to vice president in 1980 and opened a pharmaceutical search business specializing in drug discovery through clinical trials. In 2000, he was promoted to president of Judge, Inc. Prior to joining the company, he held positions at Stouffer Foods, ARAMARK and Mrs. Paul's Kitchens.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Carolyn (nee Prince), and his two daughters, Sara Gladstone and Stephanie (Michael) Bella. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Ruby. He was an avid boater and fisherman, who spent his free time captaining his Carver boat, “The Rolling Stones,” on the Chesapeake. Those who knew him describe him as a consummate captain both at the helm of his boat and of his company, and say that his leadership has carried many through choppy waters.

Nicknamed “Big Bill” by Judge, Gladstone was known as much for his bear hugs and “How you been?” greetings as for his sharp business sense. Despite his high position within the company, Bill made it his business to know every person in each of his company’s offices and often sent colorful, company-wide emails congratulating successful employees on their accomplishments.

“I can remember it like it was yesterday,” said Michael Glinter, one such successful employee, who was often on the receiving end of his congratulatory notes. “I was an immature 21-year-old, and I told Bill that I would make it big. I remember his words: ‘You do that.’ Growing up at Judge, this has been my second home. Bill was like a father to me.”

Even to those employees whose efforts were not always successful, Bill was known to send encouragement.

“I still have the email (he) sent two years ago posted in my cube encouraging me after a 'not so great month' in sales,” said Jamila Sampson, another Judge, Inc. employee. “(I) thank (him) for cheering me on during the tough times. (He) always treated me like (his) own and made me feel a part of the Judge family.”

“I have lost more than a friend and colleague,” said Judge. “I have lost a brother. Along with all the employees, I am very grateful for Bill’s influence on the company, and his sudden death leaves tremendous sorrow in our hearts.”

To ensure that business operations will not be disrupted, Judge has announced that Michael Dunn, former president of Judge, Inc., has agreed to step in as interim president while the company determines Gladstone’s replacement.
