Originating in 1979, C++ is a cross-platform programming language with imperative and object-oriented features. It is a “middle-level” language capable of creating high-performance applications. At the top of its benefits are a rich function library and its overall efficiency. C++ is used in everything from developing games, to applications, animations, web browsers, and operating systems.

C++ is one of the world’s oldest programming languages, celebrating 41 years since its inception. What was once the subject of Bjarne Stroustrup’s Ph.D. thesis has become one of the most popular coding languages today.

According to Indeed, the average C++ developer makes six figures with a base salary of just over $100,000 per year. On top of that, the nature of the work allows for remote work opportunities, which can equate to more flexibility and opportunities for success when applying for jobs. No matter where you live, full time jobs or short-term freelance work is possible within and outside your area.
Some argue that next to comparable languages, C++ comes with a more strenuous learning curve. However, a variety of quality online coding classes are available to start learning from. In 2-3 months, it’s possible to learn the basics, and users often become more advanced within 6-12 months. As with any language, it takes time and effort to pick up C++. But putting in the work may very well open the doors to your dream job!
