What to Say (and Not Say) in a Job Interview
“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”
― Abraham Lincoln
When you're heading into an interview, it's important to be prepared. This means researching the company, preparing any necessary materials you need to bring with you, and understanding how to ask the right questions.
Below are some examples of what you shouldn't say in an interview and what you should say instead (click the image to see a larger version).
Think about how many things must go right in order to score a new job. You’ve got to find the role you want…that matches your skills and qualifications…at the right company…with a resume that is attention grabbing…and a cover letter that is engaging…capped off by a job interview that impresses your interviewer(s).
If that sounds like a lot — it’s because it is!
That’s why it’s so important to avoid getting down on yourself, to maintain confidence, and most importantly, to be prepared. Here at The Judge Group, we encounter the questions in the infographic above on a regular basis, so we can spot the difference between a well-prepared applicant, and an ill-prepared one. Finding a great job requires preparedness and persistence.
But by demonstrating professionalism, practicing your answers to common questions, and asking well-formed questions — you’ll eventually land the job you want!
